Capitalism: A Love Story (2009)

Basically:

Another installment of Michael Moore's documentaries reguarding problems in today's world. Capitalism: A Love Story takes us into the United States government and banks to demonstrates how the rich get rich, and the poor stay poor.

In-Depth

Personally, I love me some documentaries about corruption and injustice. This one in particular was quite interesting, and very entertaining. Michael Moore does a great job at showing how corrupt the government can truely be (is?) with plenty of examples. Whether it's people losing there homes to the banks, or companies going on strike to get what they want, and they always do if they keep at it. Why? Simple. The banks pay the people off in order to keep their bullshit on the hush. So, now the people are happy, the community is happy, and the bank is happy, because they get away with murder.

Michael Moore

Michael Moore also went into a scheme businesses would pull on their employees.
Businessess would place life insurance on their dying employees without said employees knowledge and sign themselves as a beneficiary. Meaning, if an employee (they called them 'Peasants' in their paperwork) died, they would secretly get every penny from the insurance companies that should rightfully go to the family of the deceased. Often times, this insurance money is well over one million dollars.

Now, I personally have never trusted big businesses or the goverment. You could say I'm hardcore into conspiracies and how nobody can be trusted, and everyone is looking out for number one (themselves, btw). But can you blame me? This movie did nothing more than prove me right. Even when Obama says he wants "Change, Change Change", it's hardly his decision. He wanted to help the common folk, but there is PROOF out there that he has accepted money from the big banks that he was so opposed to. But I'm not hating against Obama, I do believe he means good, and he can do something nice for America. But he's not the first to take these bribes from banks, just the latest.

Anyways, here's some fun facts. The movie theater was filled with nothing but elderly people (Really, my group was the only one under the age of 60).
In the film, a sign maker was interviewed and said that fifty-percent of his business was selling signs that said... guess... give up? They said "Foreclosure".

The Truth

This movie kept me hooked the entire 2+ hours, but it helps to be interested in that sort of thing. If you're not, then perhaps this movie may seem a little slow, but maybe not. If you ask me, I say watch it. Not necessarily in theaters, but on DVD for sure. And while you're at it, I recommend Michael Moore's other films. Sicko, Fahrenheit 9/11, and Bowling for Columbine just to name a few.
Capitalism: A Love Story had plenty of hilarious parts (and they were quite hilarious indeed), as well as a mix of serious, depressing, and sad.

I guess I could say that I couldn't find anything bad worth mentioning about the movie. I suppose I could say my dislike towards banks and top paid businessmen grew, with reason. Did you know the richest 1% of people in the country have more money than the poorest 95% of the population? Like I said, the rich get rich, the poor stay poor.
